I came up through general adult group fitness, and for the past 8+ years I've taught adults 50+ — the specialism that matters most to me: helping older adults stay strong, mobile, and independent.
The transition was not a pivot — it was a sharpening. The principles of good group fitness instruction do not change with the age of the participant: clear programming, progressive overload scaled to the individual, and an environment where people genuinely want to come back. What changes is the stakes. For adults 50 and over, the difference between maintaining strength and losing it is the difference between independence and dependence.
That is why this work matters to me. Every class I run is designed to keep someone independent for longer — whether they are a 55-year-old who wants to stay ahead of decline, or an 85-year-old in residential care who wants to get out of a chair without help.
Alongside group fitness, I coached rugby union for 12 years — building programs, leading teams, and learning what it takes to help people move better under real-world conditions. That coaching mindset shapes how I run every class today: structured, progressive, and genuinely focused on helping each person improve.
I'm S’WET Deep and S’WET Shallow certified — trained to teach Structured Water Exercise Training in both deep and shallow water. It's strength, core and interval work in the pool, with the water taking the load off the joints.
What is S’WET?
My chihuahua and best mate. She comes to most community sessions, has strong opinions about the music in the car between villages, and walks into a room and assumes she's in charge. She happens to be blind, which she's clearly never been told.
